Concrete pillar mural for the community. Fox Park, Bristol
Network Rail and Severnside Community Rail Partnership commissioned a group of local artists to design and paint a series of murals at Fox Park viaduct, underneath Stapleton Road railway bridge in Bristol. I teamed up with fellow mural artist and illustrator Zoë Power to tackle the theme of ‘community growth in the local economy’ on one of the concrete bridge pillars.
We took one side each with our designs overlapping and sharing a colour palette. I opted for the inside (under the bridge) side of the pillar so the character could be bending beneath the structure. My character is holding up houses and buildings inspired by the local area and has a burst of plant life forming part of the body. It was also a good challenge to see if I could integrate the ridges in the concrete pillar into the design.
Painting the other pillars and back wall space, over the course of two weeks, were the talented Anna Higgie, Silent Hobo, Peace Of Art & Graft Workshop. Each piece of art is focused around a different theme, including promoting sustainable travel, bringing communities together and providing communities with a voice.
